Neither Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammates or his manager were surprised by his performance for Portugal.

Ronaldo has come in for some stick of late, after being subbed in the last two games for Juventus.

His reaction to being withdrawn drew criticism from many.

However, his response to the critics was as formidable as ever and saw him score a hat-trick in leading his Portugal team to a 6-0 win.

As many gasp in awe of his accomplishment and ability to overcome adversity, his Portugal teammate Mario Rui and manager Fernando Santos expected nothing less.

Speaking to A Bola, Rui said:

“He is the best in the world, never tired of winning, wanting more, and it is this hunger that makes him what he is.”

“We are happy to have him on the team and I hope he will continue to give us joy as he has done so far.”

His manager Santos echoed Rui’s sentiments:

“It [his performance] didn’t surprise me.”

“In fact, I am never surprised by Cristiano, I assure you. So, scoring a hat-trick was perfectly normal.”

Ronaldo’s goals took his Portugal tally to 98 and it was his 55th career hat-trick.
