Official: Antoine Griezmann signs for Barcelona

Antoine Griezmann has secured a long-awaited move to Barcelona after deciding to end his time with Atletico Madrid this summer.

Antoine Griezmann is set to play alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and potentially Neymar from next season.

The news was confirmed by the club’s official Twitter account.

The reigning La Liga champions have paid the player’s €120 million release clause and now, will be welcoming one of the biggest players in Spanish football to Camp Nou.

Liverpool told to pick ‘fantastic’ Dembele over Coutinho

Ousmane Dembele would be a better signing for Liverpool rather than his Barcelona team-mate Philippe Coutinho, says Danny Murphy.

The news comes after the player reportedly snubbed preseason duties for his club in a bid to force through a move. And in order to avoid the situation leading to a full-on confrontation between the player and the Madrid side, Barcelona decided to tackle the financial side of things.

The World Cup winner had been gunning for a move to Catalonia for quite a while and it was reported that he had already agreed personal terms with the Spanish giants back in March.

That move really irked the club’s top management who recently accused the player and Barcelona of showing a lack of respect. Recently, the club had opened disciplinary proceedings against the player after he did not show up for the first day of preseason training.

Griezmann joined Atletico Madrid back in 2014 from Real Sociedad and scored 133 goals in 257 appearances. He was also the driving force behind the club’s Copa del Rey and Europa League triumphs. However, with Diego Simeone’s side losing the likes of Diego Godin, Rodri and Juanfran, the Frenchman also decided to jump ship.

Now at Barcelona, Griezmann would be eager to win over the club’s fans with most of them being against the transfer before it happened.

With Griezmann gone, Diego Simeone would be looking towards the future with Joao Felix expected to fill in for the France international’s role for years to come.
