Barcelona have secured their third signing of the summer transfer window in Groningen midfielder Ludovit Reis for €3.25m.
18-year-old midfielder Reis has been a revelation at Groningen ever breaking into the first-team in 2017. He also made his international debut for the Netherlands U-19 team last September.
The teenager truly made his mark in Dutch football by becoming the first player born in the 21st century to score in an Eredivisie match against Sparta Rotterdam.
Reis, who will turn 19 next month, has since made 50 appearances for Groningen and chipped in another goal and two assists.
Now La Liga champions Barcelona have signed this promising young talent on a contract until 2022. The Catalan club will pay Groningen €3.25m and they can extend Reis’ deal for another two years.
Despite still being a relatively unknown talent, Barcelona have already slapped on a release clause of €100m for Reis.
“It’s a dream come true for me, I’m very happy,” Reis told Barca TV.
“I still do not believe it, I dreamed every night of this moment when I played football with my friends.
“I want to learn so much from the rest of the players, who are the best in the world.”
Reis added: “My position is a defensive midfielder, but I can play also offensive a little bit. I can play the two positions.
“My goal is to play with the first team and learn from Sergio Busquets, [and] so many players here.”
Ajax playmaker Frenkie de Jong will join his compatriot Reis at Camp Nou next season in a €75m deal, which was agreed on in January.
The 22-year-old has spoken on his excitement at the prospect of seeing Lionel Messi in action during training.
Meanwhile, Brazilian full-back Emerson will finally link-up with Barcelona in the summer after spending the latter half of this season on loan at Real Betis.
Ernesto Valverde’s side signed the 20-year-old in January from Atletico Mineiro for a €12m transfer fee.
