Moussa Diaby has ended his association with Paris Saint-Germain by signing a deal with the Bundesliga highflyers.
Moussa Diaby arrives at the Bayer Stadium as the club’s possible replacement for Julian Brandt. The young winger joined Borussia Dortmund this summer and Diaby is seen as a great alternative.
The France Under 20 international is considered as one of the most talented players coming out of PSG’s youth academy. However, he was always going to be allowed to leave due to a competition for places next season and the menace of UEFA Financial FairPlay.
PSG need to recover somewhere between €20 million to €30 million in order to balance their accounts. Failure to do so could threaten the club’s participation in the Champions League. To avoid the foreboding scenario, PSG have to sell some of the academy’s most talented players. Indeed, Diaby would be a huge miss for the club keeping in mind the long-term gains.
Nonetheless, PSG’s loss is clearly Bayer’s gain. The transfer was negotiated between the two clubs with a lot of discretion. Surprisingly, both parties struck an agreement very quickly.
Moussa Diaby has signed a five year deal with the Germans after passing a medical. Bayer Leverkusen have paid PSG €15 million with a 20% profit to be shared from a future transfer. The youngster represented PSG in the Ligue 1 25 times last season. He ended up scoring two goals and provided six assists.
The German club’s press release (via Footmercato) announced the arrival of Moussa Diaby who will wear the number 19 shirt.
“Moussa Diaby will wear the Bayer Leverkusen shirt for next season. The 19-year-old French Under 20 player has signed a five-year contract.”
The signing is definitely a major transfer coup for Bayer Leverkusen. At just 19, Moussa Diaby has already showed that he can be one of the most creative players on the planet. Time will tell if that happens or not but signs are encouraging.
