Chelsea have announced they have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig over the transfer of Timo Werner who will arrive at the club in July.

RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner has agreed to join Chelsea on a five-year contract worth around €190,000 (£170,000) per week.

Subject to passing a medical examination, Werner will arrive at the Stamford Bridge as soon as the Bundesliga season comes to a close in July.

The transfer fee reported for the German international, who recently became Frank Lampard’s second signing of this season after Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech, is around €50 million (£45m).

Speaking to the official club website, he said: “I am delighted to be signing for Chelsea, it is a very proud moment for me to be joining this great club.

“I of course want to thank RB Leipzig, the club and the fans, for four fantastic years. You will forever be in my heart.

“I look forward to next season with my new team-mates, my new manager and of course the Chelsea fans. Together we have a very successful future ahead of us.”

Chelsea sporting director Marina Granovskaia also expressed her delight after securing the deal while labeling the 24-year old as ‘a rare mix of being young and exciting.’

Werner, who joined RB Leipzig from Stuttgart in 2016, has made 157 appearances for them in total so far, scoring 93 goals and registering 40 assists. 32 of those goals have come this season.
