Official: David Luiz signs for Arsenal

David Luiz is officially an Arsenal player.

Breaking news from The Mirror, three hours after the deadline passes, Arsenal have unveiled their new centre-back, David Luiz.

In a deal reported to be worth eight million pounds, from London rivals Chelsea.

The Brazilian defender has apparently signed a two-year deal with the Emirates Stadium based club.

It is understood, the move came about after a falling out with Chelsea’s new manager Frank Lampard.

Luiz only signed a two-year contract extension recently at the club. He also had one of his best seasons under outgoing manager Maurizio Sarri.

In Chelsea’s last preseason friendly, he was an unused substitute. He made it clear he was not interested in being a back up to anyone and wanted to play.

This resulted in an apparent issue at training this week. After which Lampard apparently gave the OK for him to be sold.

Lampard feels with three first-team centre-backs, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen and  Antonio Rudiger he has enough strength in depth to see him through.

Luiz did was forced to train away from the first team on Tuesday and then on Wednesday did not train at all.

Unai Emery acted quickly on news of his availability.

It is believed the fact that several key Arsenal figures share Luiz’s agent Kia Joorabchain, may have helped the situation.

Emery and Luiz have worked together before, during their time at PSG.

Promising Arsenal youngster cites Cristiano Ronaldo as his role-model

Arsenal started off their Europa League campaign successfully, and one of the reasons for that is the youngster Bukayo Saka. After a rather shaky start...

The Arsenal manager said of the deal:

“David has huge experience and I look forward to working with him again.”

“He is a well-known player and adds to our defensive strength.”

Arsenal was priced out of moves for RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano and Juventus’s Daniele Rugani.

They were priced at 55 million and 30 million respectively.

The Laurent Koscielny debacle and eventual move to Bordeaux meant Arsenal felt short of experienced top quality players in defense.

They have also added Kieran Tierney from Celtic on deadline day to their defensive ranks.
