Fernandinho has signed a 12 months contract extension with Manchester City.

Brazilian midfielder and makeshift defender Fernandinho has penned an extension that means he stays at the Etihad until 2021.

His future has been a little up in the air as there was talk of certain stipulations in his current contract that needed to be met.

However, both the player and the club have always insisted that they wanted to find a resolution and continue the relationship.

The news that was officially confirmed by the player and the club today, will be welcomed by the City faithful.

The clubs official website, mancity.com made the announcement.

The player himself at the age of 34 expressed his gratitude at the chance to continue at the very top.

He said:

“This is the best possible news.”

“I want to take this opportunity to put on record how grateful I am to my team-mates and the backroom staff here at City.”

“Without them, this deal would not be possible, so sincere thanks to every single one of them.”

“Our fans are unbelievable; I am so happy that I will continue to play for them a year longer.”

“My focus now is on making sure we continue to be successful.”

City Director of football Txiki Begiristain insisted this signing is all about quality and nothing to do with age.

Begiristain added:

“This new deal reflects Fernandinho’s quality and commitment.”

“He is not only a first-class professional and one of the best players in world football.”

“But he is also a fantastic person who leads by example every single day.”
