Official – first Barca business for Setien as Todibo goes out on loan

Quique Setien has conducted his first bit of business as Barcelona manager, with the loan of Jean-Clair Todibo to Schalke 04.

New Barcelona manager Quique Setien has overseen his first transfer business.

The club have officially announced the loan of Jean-Clair Todibo to Schalke 04 of the German Bundesliga.

Up until yesterday, it was believed that AC Milan were the favorites to sign the youngster.

According to the clubs official website fcbarcelona.com, the deal is a loan with an option to buy.

The statement read:

“FC Barcelona and Schalke 04 have reached an agreement for the loan of the player Jean-Clair Todibo.”

“Until 30 June for a fee of 1.5 million euros.”

“The German club will pay the player’s wages.”

“They have a buy option for 25 million euros, plus 5 million in add-ons.”

” If Schalke 04 were to buy the player than FC Barcelona maintain an option to buy him back.”

“For 50 million euros, plus 10 million in variables.”

According to schlke04.de, his new boss David Wagner said of his new recruit:

“We said during the training camp in Spain that we would only be active in the market if something opened up that would help us.”

“That’s definitely the case for Jean-Clair Todibo, who is one of the best young central defenders in Europe.”

Jean-Clair Todibo said of his new club:

“The club’s management convinced me of their project, seeking success with young players. That’s why I chose to join Schalke 04.”
