Tottenham Hotspur has completed the signing of Gedson Fernandes from Benfica.

Fernandes is Jose Mourinho’s first signing as Spurs boss. The young Portuguese midfielder has joined the Lillywhites on an 18-month loan.

The club does have an option to buy at the end of the agreement.

It was believed that West Ham United were the initial front runners for the player and that even Manchester United had expressed an interest.

His buyout clause was rumored to be as high as 100 million Euros.

Regardless of the speculation, Tottenham has their man.

The club released an official statement through their website tottenhamhotspur.com.

The statement read:

“We are delighted to announce that we have reached an agreement for the 18-month loan of Gedson Fernandes from Benfica with an option to make the transfer permanent.”

“The midfielder will wear the number 30 shirt for the remainder of this season.”

The player himself is living the dream.

Fernandes said:

“I’m very happy to be here today – I make my dream a reality.”

“For me, it’s one big dream to come to this big Club.”
