After Hector Herrera’s announcement, Atletico Madrid also dropped the official bomb of Joao Felix becoming their most expensive player ever.

Atletico Madrid is on fire today with their announcements, they added Joao Felix to the official list of players they signed this summer.

After Hector Herrera’s transfer from FC Porto, the Colchoneros continue their particular business with clubs from Portugal and Benfica is the lucky one to cash in.

The deal was reached by both clubs for €126 million plus €12 million as a bonus for the intermediary.

This is a total of €138 million that Atletico Madrid just paid for the Portuguese young talent.

Joao Felix is widely considered one of last season’s biggest revelations, he has the type of skill that players such as Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo showed during their first years as professionals.

Felix even surpassed the goal-scoring record from all of these players after netting a total of 20 goals in 43 matches played on all competitions with Benfica.

We could very well be in the presence of a unique talent who has the potential to become one of the very best players in football history. But manager Diego Simeone has the huge task of making this happen.

The Spanish club just announced the youngster’s arrival through a video first, then the official written statement on their website.

“Atlético de Madrid and Benfica have reached an agreement over the transfer of João Félix,” wrote the club in a statement.

“The 19-year-old has signed a contract for the next seven seasons. João Félix is now an Atlético de Madrid player.”

“Our club and Benfica have reached an agreement over the transfer of the young Portuguese footballer.”

“The forward has already passed his medical at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra and signed his new contract for the next seven seasons.”

“The 19-year-old is a very talented player who shows great potential. He made his Benfica first team debut on Aug. 18, 2018 during a league game against Boavista.”

“It didn’t take him long to score his first goal, which he netted in the following match during the derby against Sporting CP (1-1).”

2His 85th-minute header earned his team a draw at the Estádio da Luz. With João Félix’s arrival, we add to our squad a versatile player who can play in any attacking position.”

“He’s a skillful footballer who can dribble and who’s very good on the ball. He can also score and set up a teammate, as proven by his 20 goals and 11 assists this season.”

“Because of all of this, the Atleti Family welcomes João Félix and wishes him the best of luck at his new home.”

“The announcement of the player’s signing took place at the Prado Museum in Madrid, which is currently celebrating its 200th year.”

Joao Felix is a risky bet for Atletico.

The main question after this massive effort that the Colchoneros made is to see if this was the right decision.

As only a teenager who just made his debut in top-flight football last season, paying €126 million for him seems like a huge risk.

Atletico Madrid is not a club that usually makes these types of wagers but they have changed in recent years.

We thought that Thomas Lemar was already a major risk when they signed him from AS Monaco last season, but Felix’s transfer blows everything out of proportion.

This new summer transfer window movement from Atletico Madrid goes directly against Diego Simeone’s alleged philosophy.

The Argentine manager has always bragged about not spending the big bucks for players because the club doesn’t have that kind of cash.

However, this new acquisition is a direct contradiction of all those claims the coach did.

Antoine Griezmann’s imminent exit from the club is what pushed them to go after this player, but the manager must’ve seen something special in his to make this rash decision.

We hope that Atletico didn’t make a mistake and Felix really is that special player everybody thinks he is.
