After a stressful Friday for Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi was finally able to confirm the sixth Golden Shoe of his professional career.

Ahead of Kylian Mbappe’s final attempt to catch Lionel Messi on the race for the Golden Shoe, we explained that he would need a miracle to catch the Argentine.

PSG was playing the last Ligue 1 match of the season against Stade de Reims, the Frenchman needed four goals to reach Leo and five to surpass him.

The match was a bust for the youngster and his squad, as they lost 3-1 against Reims and he only got to score a single goal.

This was the final threat that Messi had on his race to win his sixth Golden Shoe, an achievement that no other player in history got before him.

With this new accolade, Lionel Messi moves ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and keeps letting people know that he will be hard to match.

When asked about the possibility of winning this new award, Messi was very honest and he responded that he was honestly not thinking about it.

The Champions League elimination was too painful for him, all he wants is to win the Copa del Rey on Saturday and for this season to be over.

“I am not thinking about that as we are still getting over the setback at Liverpool. It was a big blow and I am not thinking about individual challenges. I just want to win the final and end the season with another trophy,” said Messi via the FC Barcelona official website.

Mbappe still deserves credit for what he did.

Even though Messi was the clear winner of this particular race, we have to give Kylian Mbappe a lot of credit for what he did.

The French youngster was the only one who kept the race for the Golden Shoe interesting, he was even above Messi during a small portion of the season.

However, the Argentine seemed hell-bent on helping Barcelona win La Liga this season through his goals.

Mbappe is only 20-years old, no other player in recent history has scored as many goals as he did at this age in modern football.

We can only imagine how prolific he will get in over the next decade, whether it’s at PSG or in another club of his choosing.

The whole world should recognize what Mbappe has done this season on the domestic level, he was truly outstanding.

Scoring 33 goals in a single term is not something that any player can do at the highest level.

Mbappe received the top-scorer award for the Ligue 1 season after the match at Reims, he celebrated by posting his picture with the accolade on social media.

This is yet another reason for him to demand more power at his club, there is no question that he is the most valuable player at PSG right now.

Messi’s real chances to win the Ballon d’Or.

Now that he’s secured his sixth Golden Shoe, it’s logical to think if Lionel Messi could actually win the Ballon d’Or by the end of the year.

We are convinced that the Barcelona captain isn’t even thinking about that award right now, he probably doesn’t think he deserves it at the moment.

Things will take a drastic change if due to some miracle, Argentina gets to finally win a trophy next summer.

The Copa America is coming to every household in the middle of June, this could be another great chance for Leo to finally win something with his country.

But we have to be more realistic, the Barcelona star won’t win the Ballon d’Or if he doesn’t win anything during the summer and Liverpool wins the Champions League.

Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk will have a greater claim to this individual award if his club becomes the new European champion.

Messi will for sure make it to the podium, but he won’t care about winning this specific trophy if he doesn’t feel that he deserves it.

Winning the Golden Shoe this year should be more than enough for him to enjoy from his 2018-19 season.
