Rodri is edging closer to joining Manchester City after the English champions decided to meet the midfielder’s buyout clause.
Very soon, Rodri will be completing a move to Manchester City from Atletico Madrid. The Spanish international only played one season for Diego Simeone’s side but it was enough for him to earn a move to the Premier League.
Back in the summer of 2018, Atletico Madrid paid Villarreal 20 million Euros to sign Rodri. It was a great investment. The youngster went on to nail a regular spot in Simeone’s starting XI and became one of the most talked about players in the summer transfer window.
Still as ambitious in their recruitment campaign as ever despite the threat of a European ban, City and Pep Guardiola have not waited long and already made the young Spaniard their number 1 target for the summer.
And according to Foot Mercato, City have met the player’s release clause.
“Lal Liga informed Atletico that Rodrigo Hernandez, represented by his lawyer and leaders of Manchester City, on Wednesday, July 3, have submitted the amount of the player’s release clause,” confirmed the club.
Now with Rodri set to leave the club this summer, Simeone would be eager to bolster his squad. It has definitely been a complicated window for the Madrid club. They have already lost the services of Diego Godin and Lucas Hernandez and are set to lose Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona.
However, the club is in pole position to sign Portuguese sensation Joao Felix from Benfica.
Manchester City on the other hand, have successfully achieved their main target for the summer by signing Rodri. The Spain international is seen as a long-term replacement for the ageing Fernandinho. The Brazilian has been the club’s most loyal servant but doesn’t really have a lot of years left in top level football.
