Borussia Dortmund have made another sensational move this summer by ensuring the return of Mats Hummels to the Signal Iduna Park.
In what should be considered the biggest news of the German Bundesliga so far, Mats Hummels has made a sensational return to Borussia Dortmund.
The German international had left the club a few years ago to join Bayern Munich where he was once considered a top prospect. And after guiding the Bavarians to several pieces of silverware, Mats Hummels has chosen to return.
The 30 year old first joined BVB on loan from Bayern back in 2018 and ended up representing the Gelsenkirchen giants 309 times. He returned to his first club in 2016 and turned out 118 times for them.
And according to Bundesliga.com, Hummels is now returning to the club where he arguably enjoyed the best form of his career.
The former World Cup winner has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the club and would be looking to guide his new side to more domestic and perhaps continental success. This is definitely a major coup for BVB.
Reportedly, the two clubs only begun negotiations last week but seeing their former captain’s willingness to make return, it didn’t take long to finalize all the details.
Dortmund coach, Lucien Favre has definitely made the right decision by bringing back Mats Hummels whose experience is going to help a young team. Niko Kovac meanwhile, won’t be too worried about the departure since it now gives him a great chance to bring in a younger centre-back.
Last season, Mats Hummels managed only 20 league games for the reigning German champions. And in the upcoming season, he would have been displaced by new signing, Lucas Hernandez. Although the France international plays as a full back for Les Bleus, he is set to pair up with Niklas Sule in the heart of defense.
