Paris Saint-Germain have announced their capture of former Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera on a five-year contract.
Upon completing his fifth season at United, Herrera announced plans to leave Old Trafford in May following months of speculation linking him to PSG and a return to Athletico Bilbao this summer.
The 29-year-old had made 189 appearances in a Red Devils jersey, while bringing home 20 goals and 27 assists to help the club win the Europa League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and Community Shield.
Now, Herrera will embark on an exciting new chapter in his career with Ligue 1 champions PSG.
“Paris Saint-Germain is the greatest club in France. It keeps on improving and competes to win every possible title, the ex-Spain international told the club’s website.
“I was looking forward to coming to Paris and to wearing those colors. I hope to continue to make history with the club!”
Herrera added: “Joining this club is an amazing feeling. I also love the city. Paris is the most beautiful city in the world. I promise three things: work, professionalism and passion.
“I also promise to improve my French because I think that language is very important for the team’s communication.”
Herrera is PSG’s third signing of the summer transfer window after the arrivals of Sevilla midfielder Pablo Sarabia in an €18m deal and goalkeeper Marcin Bulka on a free transfer from Chelsea.
The signings of Herrera and Sarabia, in particular, will be a welcome boost for Thomas Tuchel’s side after struggling for midfield options last season. In fact, it got so bad that they were once forced to play defenders Dani Alves and Marquinhos in the middle of the pitch.
