Official: Real Madrid announce Ferland Mendy’s transfer

Now that Luka Jovic and Eden Hazard have been announced, Real Madrid also revealed the official arrival of left-back Ferland Mendy.

Real Madrid’s left-back position is certainly overcrowded now that the Spanish club made the announcement of Ferland Mendy’s official transfer.

The French defensive player has been negotiating his arrival to the Spanish capital for weeks and he finally reached an agreement.

Obviously, the player was more than happy to play under manager Zinedine Zidane but the club still needed to convince Olympique Lyonnais with a fair offer.

The final amount they agreed stays in €48 million plus €5 million in objectives reached.

Mendy comes as another one of Zidane’s specific requests for the new project that he is putting together for next season.

The player will be in Madrid to pass the medical tests at the start of next week, he will then get a proper presentation with the media on June 19.

This is the fifth player that comes during the summer transfer window.

Mendy will certainly not be the last player Los Blancos sign as the club is still trying to get at least one more star for the squad.

The last two players that the Spanish giants are trying to get are either Paul Pogba or Kylian Mbappe, they would love to get both but it’s practically impossible.

Real Madrid’s list of transfers so far.

With Mendy’s announcement, we mentioned that this is the fifth player who comes to Real Madrid this season.

The first one they closed was Rodrygo Goes from Santos FC, they signed the Brazilian talent for a reported €54 million according to Transfermarkt.

The club also signed defender Eder Militao from FC Porto for €50 million before the season ended.

Florentino Perez wanted a striker on his ranks and he decided to go for Luka Jovic for €64 million.

And finally, Real Madrid announced Eden Hazard last week as their biggest transfer of the summer so far. The club paid €100 million for the Belgian star.

The club was already negotiating for Mendy and the announcement was finally made today.

“Real Madrid and Olympique Lyonnais have agreed on the transfer of player Ferland Mendy,” announced the club on it’s official website.

“The footballer will be linked to the club for the next six seasons until June 2025. Mendy is to be presented on Wednesday, June 19 at 13:00 hours.”

Official: Benfica confirms Atletico’s offer for Joao Felix

Through an official letter directed at the Portuguese Market Value Commission, Benfica confirmed Atletico Madrid's hefty offer for Joao Felix. As we've been telling our...

“The presentation will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. After this, Mendy will step on the stadium’s grass for the first time while wearing the club’s jersey.”

“The player will also talk to members of the media inside the press conference.”

Mendy’s arrival presents a new problem for Zidane.

While the negotiations for Mendy were being completed, there was always the doubt of who would be the player that could leave if the Frenchman arrived.

There are currently another three players who can play in the same position that Mendy would occupy.

The one who seems to have a secured spot is Brazilian Marcelo, who has Zidane’s full trust.

Another player who was supposed to return after a loan is Theo Hernandez, but the club will have to find him a new destination.

And finally, the other player who still remains is Sergio Reguilon.

The Real Madrid product had a nearly perfect debut with the club last season, but Zidane clearly didn’t include him in his plans.

Seems like Reguilon and Theo are the ones who will get the shorter end of the stick.

We will have news about both players and their future in the upcoming weeks, stay tuned to get all the information about their next destinations.

Ferland Mendy is one of the players that Zidane desperately wanted for his new project, the manager seems like he is getting everything he has requested until now.

Los Blancos can now fully focus on getting Pogba and Mbappe.
