Qatari outfit Al Saad have confirmed the signing of Santi Cazorla just a day after he left Spanish side Villareal. He joins Barca great Xavi in Doha.
Santi Cazorla has officially signed for Doha based outfit Al Saad. The club confirmed the move on Monday morning.
There were rumors Cazorla could join ex-teammate Mikel Arteta in a coaching capacity at Arsenal but the Spaniard still has one last stop to continue his playing adventure.
“We have reached an agreement with Santi Cazorla. He will reach Doha soon to complete the formalities and join the team. Welcome to Al-Sadd, Santi!” the club tweeted on Monday morning.
The 35-year-old is also looking forward to new surroundings and a manger he is well familiar with in Xavi Hernandez. Both players shared the pitch on national duty for Spain during the latter’s playing days.
Cazorla said in a post on Instagram: “Happy to announce that Al Sadd will be my next team! I’m looking forward to be with Xavi and give my 100%”
The veteran midfielder has enjoyed a stunning career revival over the past 18 months.
Injury struggles darkened the end of his time at Arsenal, with an achilles problem keeping him stuck on the sidelines for 636 days. It was feared he would not be able to play again at one point.
A determined Cazorla fought back to full fitness and proved he still had it in him. The 35-year-old completed the 2019/20 season as one of the top performers, scoring 11 goals and supplying nine assists.
In total, Cazorla made 333 appearances for Villarreal across his three stints at El Madrigal. He would no doubt be remembered in high esteem by the Yellow Submarine.
