Tottenham Hotspurs have made an emergency new signing, in goalkeeper Michel Vorm.
Following the terrible injury sustained by number one Hugo Lloris, Mauricio Pochettino feels he is short of cover in the goalkeeping department.
As the transfer window is closed, he is unable to shop for a replacement in a conventional way.
He is limited to free agents who have no contract with any other club.
35-year-old Dutchman Michel Vorm was a goalkeeper on Spurs’ book up until June of this year. His contract expired and with no renewle he was released.
Vorm already has 47 appearances in the books for Spurs across his five seasons with the club.
He has a proven track record proving a reliable backup to the 32-year-old Frenchman Lloris, who is out until the new year.
In an official announcement on the clubs official website, tottenhamhotspur.com, his addition to the squad was confirmed.
The statement read:
“We are delighted to announce the signing of Michel Vorm on a contract until the end of the season.”
“The experienced goalkeeper returns to us having departed in June this year, following the conclusion of his previous contract.”
“Initially joining us in 2014 from Swansea City, the Dutch international made 47 appearances in all competitions over the next five seasons, serving as a reliable understudy to Hugo Lloris.”
“As a free agent, Michel has been able to re-sign outside of the two designated annual transfer windows.”
“He will provide additional goalkeeping cover following the elbow injury sustained by Hugo in the match at Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this month.”
“He has once again been assigned squad number 13.”
He has quite an impressive record between the sticks for the Lillywhites.
He has managed 17 clean sheets over his 47 appearances, which is part of 111 care games with no goals conceded.
