Tottenham have sealed another transfer deadline day deal to sign the highly-rated Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham.
Reports had consistently linked Sessegnon with a move to Spurs over the past year following his stunning progress at Fulham.
Since debuting in a Carabao Cup match in August 2016, the 19-year-old made 120 appearances for the first-team and established himself as a regular in the Cottagers line-up.
Media outlets across Europe have even labelled Sessegnon as one of the world’s top-20 most talented youngsters.
With Fulham relegated to the Championship last season, however, the England U-21 international was keen to leave Craven Cottage. He wasn’t short of suitors either as Manchester United, Liverpool and Spurs were all keen.
But it was the latter who got the nod in a player-plus-cash deal that will see midfielder Josh Onomah head to Fulham.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham,” read a club statement.
“The 19-year-old has signed a contract with the club until 2025 and will wear the number 19 shirt.”
Reports have indicated that Spurs will pay Fulham £25m as part of the deal for Sessegnon. However, this could eventually go up a further £5m based on some performance-related add-ons.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have also confirmed their capture of Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso. They’ve signed him up on a season-long loan deal for €13m, with an obligation to buy him next summer for €40m.
Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele and winger Jack Clarke from Leeds United have also joined Spurs in the off-season.
No more players, however, are expected to arrive in north London following the club’s failed bid to sign Juventus forward Paulo Dybala. It turns out the Argentine will instead remain in Turin for next season at least.
