UEFA has postponed the Euro 2020 until the next year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The European Championship, initially due to be played from June and July this year, has been pushed back by 12 months.
Moreover, UEFA also announced that all its club and country competitions for both men and women has been put off until further notice.
This decision was taken by the organization’s executive committee in a videoconference meeting held today in accordance with the public health measures and to prevent the building up of fixtures due to the widespread of Coronavirus.
According to their official website, President Aleksander Ceferin, while announcing the decision, said:
“The health of fans, staff, and players has to be our number one priority and in that spirit, UEFA tabled a range of options so that competitions can finish this season safely and I am proud of the response of my colleagues across European football.
“It was important that, as the governing body of European football, UEFA led the process and made the biggest sacrifice.”
