Villarreal have completed moves for Dani Parejo and Francis Coquelin from LaLiga rivals Valencia on long-term deals.

Just days after confirming a deal to sign Takefusa Kubo on loan from Real Madrid, Villarreal have struck big again in signing Valencia midfielders Dani Parejo and Francis Coquelin.

The pair were widely expected to leave Valencia this summer, despite reporting for pre-season training earlier this week. And now they’ve finally signed their deals on the dotted line.

Villarreal confirmed news of their capture of Coquelin earlier today on a four-year deal on their website. He’s reportedly joined on a €8.5m fee plus add-ons.

The former Arsenal ace will be officially presented as a new Villarreal player on Thursday.

Parejo, meanwhile, ends a nine-year association with Valencia by joining Villarreal on a free transfer. He has signed a three-year deal with an option for a further 12 months included.

The Spaniard’s departure will have come as terrible blow for Valencia. It was only two years ago they rejected offers of around €30m from Barcelona and Arsenal. Now they’ve lost him for absolutely nothing.

Club owner Peter Lim will once again come under the spotlight for giving the go-ahead to rip up Parejo’s contract like that. And with no real structure in place at the Mestalla, his decisions will probably remain unchallenged in the future.

Nonetheless, Parejo leaves Valencia with an impressive record of 63 goals and 62 assists in 383 games. He also famously captained Los Che to Copa del Rey glory last year.
