Sad days of defeats and poor performances looked like they’ll continue for Arsenal tonight against West Ham at the London Stadium.
Ljungberg surprised everyone with Arsenal’s starting line-up tonight featuring both Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel Martinelli.
It looked like a complete disaster for Arsenal. West Ham had all the initiative, and the Gunners couldn’t string together a couple of passes.
This resulted in Ogbonna’s goal near the end of the first half, giving the Hammers the lead.
The critics started firing their ammo immediately. However, Ljungberg obviously held an inspiring team-talk at the half.
Arsenal came out all guns blazing in the second-half.
It didn’t take long for Martinelli to convert Kolasinac’s assist and tie the match in the 60th minute.
The team kept pushing forward, feeling the momentum.
In these moments, you couldn’t find any similarity whatsoever to the team that struggled to pass the ball in the first half.
Then, Nicolas Pepe took over.
First, he struck a wide-angle shot with his left foot, perfectly placing it into Martin’s corner, giving Arsenal the lead.
Just minutes after, he was in a similar situation. Displaying his footballing IQ, Pepe found Aubameyang with a pin-point pass, and the Gabonian made it 3-1.
West Ham couldn’t hit back, even though they had most of the possession for the remainder of the match.
This win will be huge for Arsenal in terms of confidence. The Gunners sit at ninth, just seven points behind the Champions League spots.
On the other side, this defeat could mean Pellegrini’s sack. West Ham are just above the relegation zone after tonight’s defeat.
