The FC Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid match had a very special guest at Camp Nou last night, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer attended the match.

Despite not being held accountable if Manchester United gets eliminated by FC Barcelona in the Champions League quarterfinals, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still decided to visit Camp Nou on Saturday alongside assistant manager Mike Phelan for La Liga’s decisive match that the Catalan club won against Atletico Madrid.

The Norwegian manager is doing everything he can to study the Blaugrana ahead of their visit to Old Trafford next Wednesday, he was a witness of the late victory that the unleashed duo of Leo Messi and Luis Suarez brought to Barcelona and pretty much decided this year’s La Liga title for them.

Ole knows that defeating one of the best football clubs of the last decade will be a massive task ahead of him, but he cannot give up that easily because this attitude doesn’t register in the Manchester United code.

Solskjaer came back to the same place where he became a bonified legend for the Red Devils, this is where he scored that winning goal against Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final in the 92nd minute.

All the Barcelona fans who managed to notice his presence were able to leave the stadium happy because they know the Manchester United manager knows what he is up against, but the Catalan club shouldn’t underestimate the English squad.

This same situation has played out in the last three seasons at FC Barcelona, they were looking mighty in the season against any other club they faced and were painfully eliminated by three squads that knew how to play against them and studied them properly.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has proved that alongside Mike Phelan, he can create an environment that is uncomfortable enough for Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at Old Trafford next Wednesday.

There is a good chance that the Uruguay international might not find the ideal spaces that he usually does but stopping Lionel Messi at his best is a whole different deal, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer essentially witnessed the most competitive football club in the world playing their best game against arguably one of the most defensive clubs in European football.

More than analysis about their opponent, both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Mike Phelan attended a tactical class that gave them a lot of good pointers for their own managerial experience.

The Norwegian manager remained very attentive through the whole 90 minutes of a thrilling match, even Mike Phelan uploaded a Twitter image of both men enjoying their visit to Camp Nou and joked about it.

On a more serious note for Manchester United, the Red Devils haven’t exactly been performing well in the last couple of matches as they have been falling out of grace recently in two competitions.

After eliminating PSG in the Champions League, the Red Devils lost a high profile Top Four Premier League match against Arsenal.

On the very next match for the FA Cup Quarterfinals, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad got eliminated by Wolverhampton Wanderers and the same squad defeated them last Tuesday.

This latest defeat left Ole’s squad in a very compromised position in regards to their Top Four hopes for next season, staying in the Champions League for the upcoming full year is absolutely essential for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s intentions to attract better players for the brand new project.

The Champions League quarterfinals are actually considered a good enough achievement for Solskjaer’s first-ever season in top-flight English football, they are not expected to win the competition but that doesn’t mean the Norwegian manager isn’t allowed to do everything he can to break all the odds on their series vs Barcelona.
