Olivier Giroud revealed he’s been giving out some valuable pointers to his Chelsea team-mate Tammy Abraham to help him unleash his potential.

On the back of scoring 26 goals in 40 appearances on loan at Aston Villa last season, Abraham has linked up with Giroud at Chelsea for this term.

Admittedly, though, the 21-year-old has struggled to bring his A-game over to Frank Lampard’s side. He’s yet to find the back of the net in any of his three competitive outings, and missed the decisive penalty in Chelsea’s UEFA Super Cup loss to Liverpool.

While things haven’t gotten off to the best of starts at Stamford Bridge, however, Giroud is confident there’s more to come from Abraham.

The World Cup winner, who’s scored one goal himself this season, has encouraged Abraham to keep practising to overcome his struggles.

“I have been talking with Tammy a lot,” Giroud told talkSPORT.

“My main role is to look after these young players like Tammy and try and help them to improve.

“When you’re a striker and you miss some chances or you miss a penalty, you must carry on and make sure you never give up.

“This is one of the best values you can have as a striker. Tammy has got the quality and talent, he just needs to practice more and more. I keep telling him this.”

With Chelsea’s two-window transfer ban in force, Giroud is the senior member of Lampard’s three centre-forwards this season.

The France international has got plenty of experience under his belt as well having scored 78 goals in 222 Premier League matches for both Arsenal and Chelsea in the last seven years.

Now into his thirties, however, Giroud is far from done progressing as a player.

The four-time FA Cup winner added: “I have been doing that [practising] all my career and I still do. Even at 32, I believe I can still get better and improve as a player.

“I believe Tammy can get to a very good level. He is listening to the advice that is being given to him, and he knows how important it is for him to make the most of this opportunity he has and make the step up.”

Chelsea will take a trip to Norwich City this afternoon for their next Premier League match. Kick-off will start at 13:30 (CET).
