Only one year after beginning his battle against cancer, Max Taylor has been given his first Manchester United senior call up by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 19-year-old centre back was diagnosed with cancer and began treatment during the 2018/19 season.

After surgery and chemotherapy, Taylor returned to under 23 action last month.

He has impressed manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer enough to warrant a call up to the senior squad for the Europa League qualifying group game against Astana of Kazakhstan.

Solskjaer has been true to his word, in giving youth a chance as he tries to bring United back to the top.

Speaking to Manchester United’s official website manutd.com, the player is quite amazed at the turn around in his fortunes.

He said:

“Obviously, Ole has given quite a few of us the opportunity to travel with the team and, hopefully, a few of us will get a game.”

“The position I was in this time last year.”

“I was in my first few weeks where I had chemotherapy, I wouldn’t have thought, a year on, I’d be travelling with the first team.”

“It doesn’t matter what the environment is like, just being out there is massive.”

” It’s been a dream since I can remember ever kicking a ball – being a Manchester United first-team player.”

Congratulations Max Taylor on a fantastic achievement!
