A deceitful result for FC Barcelona after a thrilling match against Olympique Lyonnais at Groupama Stadium in the city of Lyon on Tuesday.

The landscape for FC Barcelona against Olympique Lyonnais in the Champions League wasn’t very encouraging for this Tuesday, the Catalan club was expected to suffer against the French club and they relatively did but they didn’t get such a bad result in the Champions League.

Lyon came into this match feeling like they were the overall favorites to win it, they did perform relatively well during the first half.

Winger Memphis Depay proved that he can carry the squad against top opponents but they weren’t able to get a goal when they had the most dominant in the game, FC Barcelona started the match without that usual flair they have in Champions League matches like this one.

Lionel Messi only had one shot on target that Anthony Lopes saved during the first half, the French goalkeeper became the best player of the match after half-time as he made up to seven different saves throughout the whole 90 minutes against an FC Barcelona that was unleashed in the second half but with poor accuracy in front of goal.

Pretty much all the shots they took were directed to the goalkeeper, which made his performance even more crucial for his squad.

The match ended with a final 0-0 result, the clearest chance came from Luis Suarez in the second half after the Uruguay international received a pass from Coutinho and his response was to send a shot straight to the far post where Lopes couldn’t do much to prevent a goal.

The Catalan club get their fourth draw out of the last five matches in all competitions, they needed to get a positive result at Lyon this Tuesday but at least they didn’t receive a single goal throughout the 90 minutes.

The problem with this final 0-0 is that the Catalan club will have to win the match at Camp Nou on the return leg, because a draw with at least one goal scored on each side will give Lyon the next-round ticket due to visitors’ goals.

The ghosts from previous seasons where Barcelona got eliminated in a shocking manner are starting to creep in, the Catalan club is at a very difficult moment of the season and they really need to get positive results in the upcoming matches in the other two competitions then have to play.

Neymar, Barcelona, La Liga

Opinion: Neymar isn’t worth the hassle for Barcelona

It's time for Barcelona to drop their long-standing interest in re-signing Neymar, and instead focus on other avenues.

Barcelona has to wager their whole season on their next three matches, this is where everything could get settled in their favor or completely fall apart because they have to face two rivals that can create major problems for them.

Barcelona’s crucial week

We begin with next Saturday, FC Barcelona has a very important trip to Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium where they will have to get a victory if they want to remain alive in the competition against their closest competitors.

But the real challenge for the Catalan club will come next week, as they will have two consecutive visits to the Santiago Bernabeu where they will face Real Madrid in the second Copa del Rey semifinal first, and La Liga’s match on the weekend after that.

These two matches are what will decide if Barcelona is worthy of fighting for all the trophies this season as captain Lionel Messi promised all the fans at the start of the year, Real Madrid knows that the Blaugrana are not going through their best moment right now and they are willing to do everything they can in order to eliminate them from Copa del Rey and possibly knock them down from La Liga’s top spot in the table.

Los Blancos’ defeat against Girona last weekend wasn’t helpful but they are still confident that they can defeat Barcelona in the two consecutive matches they have to play, it’s the moment of truth for the Catalan club and there will be no turning back after next week’s events.
