It is time to talk about Memphis Depay and how he’s improved since his transfer from Manchester United to Lyon.
Memphis Depay emerged on the scene as one of the most talented players in the Eredivisie. He scored two goals in the 2014 FIFA Wolrd Cup as a teenager and won the Dutch League with PSV in 2015.
Depay was the top goalscorer and the best player in the Eredivisie in the title-winning campaign – which was enough to convince Manchester United to pay £25 million for his services.
However, his move to the biggest club in England probably came too early. Depay couldn’t cope with the pressure and the physical demands of the Premier League and after unsuccessful 18 months at Old Trafford, the Dutchman signed for Olympique Lyon.

His transfer to the Ligue 1 turned out to be a perfect choice for the young forward. He regained his self-confidence and started playing like the old Memphis Depay.
Memphis was fantastic during the previous campaign. He scored 22 goals across all competitions and provided 17 assists, establishing himself as one of the best players in the French league.
Depay has retained his great form during the current season and with his 14 assists, the Dutchman is the best provider in his club.
And while you can say that it is much easier to have those numbers in the French league, it is his performances for the Dutch national team that convinced us – Memphis Depay is finally ready to play for a big club.
He scored against France and Germany and helped Holland to win their group in the UEFA Nations League in front of the current and former World Champions.
Depay also scored against the European Champions – Portugal and noted an assist in a friendly game against Belgium.

Memphis crowned himself as the leader of his national team with his performances during the latest international break.
The forward played a role in each of the six goals the Oranje scored in their games against Belarus and Germany, proving he is now ready to step up and carry his teammates.
“I also want to make a transfer to a top club again this summer. Lyon is a big club but is not one of the five best in Europe,” – he said via Manchester Evening News earlier this season.
“I want to go to a club like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich. I want to go to a city that suits me and a club that suits me, to a team that really wants to play football.”
