There are so many things wrong with Josep Maria Bartomeu’s statement about Ousmane Dembele being better than Neymar Junior.
I was eagerly waiting for Bartomeu’s press conference earlier this Friday for many reasons, but I certainly didn’t expect his Dembele and Neymar comparisons again.
The FC Barcelona president is arguably one of the most inept that the club has had in decades, and that’s a major statement considering how many mediocre chairmen they’ve had over the years.
Even though the man does seem to be doing a good job with the club in regards to taking the brand all over the world, he keeps failing where it matters the most.
FC Barcelona needs a president who truly understands football, somebody who puts tradition above results and has the patience to do it.
This is the main reason why I believe that Joan Laporta has been the best president in FC Barcelona’s history.
Bartomeu’s statement about Ousmane Dembele being a better player than Neymar is arguably one of the stupidest he’s ever made.
There are no basis to say that in public, the Brazilian player is light years above the French youngster on every single level.
All Bartomeu makes the fans think with statements like this, is that the club’s board is still butthurt by the way in which Neymar left the institution back in 2017.
By the way, the way all that played out in Bartomeu’s eyes is a very interesting story as well.
"No hay caso Neymar"
"Sigo pensando que Dembélé es mejor que Neymar"
"Gil Marín y Óscar Grau se reunieron ayer por Griezmann"
"Sé dónde jugará De Ligt el año que viene"
"No puedo confirmar el fichaje de Mirotic pero el tema va avanzando"

Comparison between Neymar and Dembele.
If you choose to believe what the Barcelona president says instead of going straight to the stats, you have the right to do so.
However, we encourage you to at least give this comparison a little time and you will see why Bartomeu is way off on his ideas.
Neymar was roughly at around the same age than Dembele when he arrived at FC Barcelona, he was exactly 21 years old.
The Brazilian player already had a Copa Libertadores under his belt and had scored nearly 200 goals for his club and country.
The Brazilian is well on his way to at least have Zlatan Ibrahimovic type of numbers, a legendary striker who just scored his 500th career-goal as a veteran in the MLS.
Neymar is already past his 350 goals for club and country, and he is still only 27 years old with a long career ahead of him.
Ousmane Dembele is only 22 years old and he has scored 55 goals for his club and country.
We are sure that Bartomeu wanted to motivate his player with his statement, but all he does is to put pressure on him for next season.
We’ve all seen how terribly Ousmane responds to pressure based on his first two seasons with the Catalan club, this can only affect him on a deep level.

The truth about Neymar’s return to Barcelona.
Another reason why Bartomeu decided to compare Dembele with Neymar is because of the current state in the negotiations between Barcelona and PSG.
We still have a long summer ahead of us and publicly stating they are going after the Brazilian would affect the final outcome.
It’s no secret that Neymar wants to return to Barcelona, but the club needs to be extremely careful if they want to complete this comeback with success.
The truth is that not even Bartomeu must believe when he said about both players, all he wanted was to front an image that he always tries to convey in public.
FC Barcelona is a club that has always featured presidents with a lack of dignity, they don’t mind contradicting themselves along the way as long as they win something in the end.
Also, there is a lot of hate against Neymar in Barcelona right now. Bartomeu was also trying to please all those associates who don’t want the Brazilian back at the club.
But make no mistake, Neymar truly is one of the best options on the market for any club in the world right now.
Regardless of what you think about him, this is a player who still is inside the Top 10 best players in the world.
Even if he is currently injured, it’s quite evident that this is a special talent who can’t be compared to someone like Dembele.
