Despite not being able to hold the top of the Premier League with Liverpool, Virgil van Dijk should be on Pep Guardiola’s list of possible signings.

There already is a general consensus about Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk, he is considered the best player in the Premier League right now and we consider that he should be the biggest target for Pep Guardiola’s buying spree next summer.

The Catalan manager has already proved that he doesn’t mind paying the big bucks for defenders, as he did with names such as Kyle Walker or Aymeric Laporte already.

Virgil van Dijk would easily cost Manchester City above €100 million but the player has proved that he is worth the effort as his heroics with Liverpool has brought the Reds to the brink of winning the title this season.

The tournament still isn’t over for either of both squads, Manchester City still has a few commitments that they need to accomplish for the rest of the season and they really need to win at stadiums where they have a high percentage of losing points.

As things stand right now in the Premier League, the Citizens are above Liverpool by only one point but their calendar is a lot more complicated than Jurgen Klopp’s squad for the rest of the season.

Pep Guardiola pretty much knows that City might lose a couple of matches still, but having a player like Van Dijk might change that for next season.

We are easily talking about a player who is already considered as the best defender in the world, he is even above other great players like Sergio Ramos this season and he should be very important for Liverpool’s claim for the title for the final 9 matches ahead of us.

This player has not only made a massive impact in English football, but he has also helped his National Team get back to the top spots in the world due to Van Dijk’s special bond with Matthijs de Ligt under Ronald Koeman’s tutelage.

Pep Guardiola is always looking for these types of dominant players, the ones that nobody has any doubts about and Liverpool not winning anything this season could open the door for a player who is hungry for success as soon as he can get it during his career.

The Reds’ fans are already starting to get paranoid during the final stretch of the season, they were far above Manchester City at the top of the table a few months ago and they are now in second place with stress coming up their spines that may end up damaging their title hopes for good.

Virgil van Dijk: Jurgen Klopp is very passionate

Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk reveals Jurgen Klopp can get very angry in Liverpool team meetings.

At this point, many of these fans are not even certain that having Van Dijk on their side can even help them.

This is the perfect opportunity for Pep Guardiola to act, the Catalan manager knows that players like Nicolas Otamendi have pretty much finished their spell at Manchester City and Vincent Kompany is also one of the club’s legends who is about to retire.

There is no way that the Citizens won’t come after one of the best defenders they can get for the upcoming season, this means that they might go after Virgil regardless of what Liverpool has to say on the matter.

Van Dijk himself knows that if the Reds don’t get to win the title this season, they might get into a negative dynamic that could bring them to not win any trophies at all for even more years to come.

The Dutch player has been a witness of how damned the club really is, manager Jurgen Klopp has changed the players’ mentality but he still hasn’t been able to win a single trophy and players like Van Dijk might not want to stick around for this debacle.

If Manchester City wins other titles this season, we can pretty much guarantee that Pep Guardiola will remain at the club for more years and signing players like Virgil will become a top priority for the board.
