Let’s talk about the La Liga top four race as Getafe, Valencia, and Sevilla fight for the only Champions League spot left on the table.

While the title race in La Liga seems to be over, as Barcelona is on the brink of securing their back-to-back Spanish championship, the race for the last Champions League spot is excepted to go down to the final day of the season.

Getafe is the team that surprisingly occupies the fourth position on the table, but our favorite to secure a Champions League football for the next season is Valencia.

The Bats sit in fifth at the moment, level on points with Sevilla and only two behind fourth-placed Getafe.

One of the main reasons why we believe so is the fact that Marcelino’s side plays in excellent form since the start of 2019 and has the easiest schedule from the three contenders for a top-four finish in Spanish La Liga.

Los Ches have started the season in a miserable fashion, winning only four of the 19 games in the first half of the campaign. The turning point of Valencia’s season came at the end of December, when Cristiano Piccini scored a 94th-minute winner against Huesca, saving Marcelino’s job at the same time.

The Bats have been a completely different team during the second part of the 2018-19 season.

Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt still unsure of his future

Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt conceded his future is still far from resolved despite the many big clubs that are set to compete for his signature.

They have reached the Copa del Rey Final, the Europa League semi-finals and managed to climb up to the fifth place in the Spanish League.

Valencia have suffered only one defeat in the previous 15 games in La Liga, coming home with a point from Camp Nou and winning against Real Madrid in the process.

They travel to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night and play against Eibar, Huesca, Alaves, and Valladolid in the remaining games of the campaign.

Their contenders for the Champions League spot – Getafe and Sevilla have a tougher schedule, as The Deep Blues face both Real Madrid and Barcelona, while Los Filigranas also travel to Atletico Madrid and host Athletic Bilbao.

When two clubs finish with the same points in Spanish football, the decider is based on the aggregate score between them when they faced each other during the season.

And the fact that Valencia have a better head-to-head record against both Getafe and Sevilla is another reason why we see them as the favorites for the fourth place in La Liga.

Los Ches would probably need to win 10 to 12 points if they want to secure a Champions League football for the next season and with the schedule ahead of them, we definitely think it is achievable.
