We already had a good idea this could happen but, we can now confirm that Virgil van Dijk is the best player in the world right now.

There is no other way to go around this, Virgil van Dijk is the best player in the world right now.

What he has done for Liverpool last season was simply unrivaled by any other player in the world, you could tell both Messi and Ronaldo knew they weren’t going to win the major prize tonight.

It’s not as if they need more awards in their trophy cabinets anyway, they will still be the most dominant footballers in this sport’s history and nothing can take that away from them.

We are happy that they finally took the back seat and let other players come forward to start competing with their respective clubs.

Van Dijk’s whole season with the Reds was something that we hadn’t seen from a defender in more than a decade, Fabio Cannavaro was the last player who gave us something this impressive from a defender.

The Dutch player deserves every little bit of praise that he gets for winning this award, most of us needed something different in order to not get bored by looking at the same players taking all the trophies year after year.

Luka Modric already became the first player to break this tradition that Messi and Ronaldo imposed for so many years.

Virgil van Dijk came to double confirm what we already believed could happen, football is back to normal again and we are barely waking up from a decade-long dream.

Messi and Ronaldo will try again this season.

Even though this will be the second straight year in which Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo don’t win the individual awards, we know that they won’t stop trying to get them for as long as they keep playing football.

The new season is already starting to take shape, both players are trying to put together their respective squads in order to stay competitive in the Champions League.

The ultimate goal is to defeat the Premier League clubs that have taken back their rightful place in modern football, English football reigns supreme once again thanks to players like Virgil.

We are more than ready to witness a new season filled with wonderful individual performances, but also by collective efforts such as the one Liverpool did last season.

Van Dijk’s award couldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for all the squad he had by his side, this needs to be shared amongst all the other players who helped him lift the Champions League trophy.

The Reds will be one of the top candidates to win the title again this year, but Van Dijk knows that he needs to remain at the top of his game if he wants to get past the main contenders such as Manchester City, Juventus, or FC Barcelona this season.

The Ballon d’Or is closer than ever for Van Dijk.

There are two pending individual awards left for Van Djik to win, getting this one from UEFA made him approach inches away from the other two.

First, we will have the FIFA gala that will deliver The Best Award during the final week of September.

It’s safe to say that Virgil is the main favorite to get that one, but the most prestigious award doesn’t come until December.

The Ballon d’Or is a traditional prize that a footballer can win in order to get recognized as the best player of the natural year.

If Virgil gets to also win The Best Award from FIFA, he will have an even greater chance to lift the biggest individual trophy of the year in December.

Paris will be the city in which this final prize will be delivered, Van Dijk is the overwhelming favorite after what happened tonight in the UEFA Champions League Awards and draw ceremony.

We can already tell you that the Dutch defender will end up as the best player in the world for 2019, he is the one who simply performed the best throughout the whole season.

It’s a relief to know that Messi and Ronaldo may not win an individual trophy of this magnitude again, it’s time for them to leave those moments to the mortals.

Will Virgil van Dijk win the rest of the year’s individual awards? Please share your opinion in the comment section down below.
