Today we would like to talk about the Premier League Golden Boot race and the favorites to win the prestigious award.

We are getting into the final stage of the season, as Manchester City and Liverpool go head-to-head in the Premier League title race.

However, we’ve got another exciting race in top-flight English football, as there are eight players who could win the Premier League Golden Boot award.

Manchester City star Sergio Aguero leads the charts with 19 goals, alongside last year’s winner Mohamed Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who have scored the same amount of goals so far in the 2018-19 campaign.

Sadio Mane, with 18 is just behind them, while Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane follow, having netted 17 times.

Former Premier League winners Eden Hazard and Jamie Vardy also have a chance to win the Golden Boot award, as they have scored 16 goals so far, three less than the leading trio.

That’s eight potential candidates with only three goals between them – by far the most exciting race for the Premier League Golden Boot award in the XXI century.

The last time we had a similar situation in top-flight English football, was 17 years ago, in the 2001-02 season, when French striker Thierry Henry won the award with 24 goals ahead of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Alan Shearer – all of them netted 23 times.

Pochettino: Kane call could be decisive for Spurs’ UCL dream

Mauricio Pochettino concedes that his final decision on whether to start Harry Kane could prove decisive for Tottenham's Champions League dream.

Harry Kane is the only player on the list who is injured at the moment, so in our opinion, he has the worst chance to finish the campaign as Premier League’s top goalscorer.

The English striker, however, has won the award twice previously, and even if he recovers on time we believe Mauricio Pochettino won’t risk him in the league, as Tottenham have qualified for the Champions League semi-finals where they face Ajax.

Liverpool’s forward Mohamed Salah has scored only two goals in his last 9 Premier League games, while his teammate Sadio Mane is probably in the best form of his career, having netted 10 times since the start of 2019.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has found the net in the last two games for Arsenal, while Chelsea’s Eden Hazard who was a bit quiet in the second part of the season has three goals in three games in April.

Raheem Sterling, who is the favorite to win the Player of the Year award and his Man City colleague Sergio Aguero would probably prefer to retain their Premier League crown, then winning this individual award.

However, the Argentinian striker leads the top scorers’ standings at the moment and we believe he will have his one eye on the Golden Boot race during the final four games of the season.

Jamie Vardy is the last name on the list. The Leicester striker is playing in excellent form since Brendan Rodger’s arrival, as he has scored eight goals in his last eight games.
