Ousmane Dembele’s agent insists the forward is “100 per cent” going to stay at Barcelona despite reports of a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
It’s been a relatively disappointing two years for Dembele at Barcelona amid struggles for consistency and injury problems. In fact, he will now spend up to five weeks sidelined with a new hamstring setback.
This is another unwelcome blow for the 22-year-old’s Camp Nou career, which has come under big threat this summer.
Competition for places in the Barcelona line-up is heating up for Dembele following the €120m arrival of France team-mate Antoine Griezmann. The former Atletico Madrid star looks to have rediscovered his mojo as well after bagging a brace in last Sunday’s 5-2 win over Real Betis.
The potential return of Neymar is another cause of concern for Dembele. The Brazilian will very likely pip him in the Blaugrana pecking order should they sign him from Paris Saint-Germain.
While Barcelona’s attempts to convince PSG into a sale haven’t gone smoothly, though, it appears they are far from finished. Apparently, they plan to offer the French giants Dembele and Ivan Rakitic plus €125m for Neymar.
But the Frenchman’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, has shut down the prospect of a move to the Parc Des Princes for his client.
“He is going to stay at Barcelona, 100 per cent,” Sissoko told Telefoot.
“There is no possibility that he will leave. He wants and will win at Barcelona.”
Therefore, hopes of a Neymar and Barcelona reunion have seemingly suffered yet another blow. With the European transfer window closing next Monday, things are beginning to get desperate.
Should things fail to pan out, however, it could give Dembele another chance to resurrect his career in Catalonia.
The former Borussia Dortmund star, who cost Barcelona €125m in 2017, has managed 18 goals and 17 assists in 66 appearances for the Catalan giants.
