Former Real Madrid defender Christian Panucci hopes to see Santiago Solari match Zinedine Zidane’s success as the club’s new manager

Like Zidane, Solari was promoted from the Real Madrid Castilla team this month following an impressive interim spell in charge.

However, lingering doubts over Solari’s lack of experience in coaching at senior level resurfaced following Real’s shocking 3-0 loss to Eibar on Saturday.

While acknowledging that matching a legend like Zidane is no easy feat though, Panucci is confident Solari can do well at Real.

“Zidane won three Champions Leagues! When you do that, you must be good. I hope Solari has that, and that he wins as much as Zizou,” Panucci told Goal.

“When a young coach does things right it is good for everybody. It is easier to train Real Madrid than Roma or Albania.

“He has a great chance to do a good job. He won four games and was given a contract until 2021. He has to take a chance, because it is a great opportunity.

An emotional Juanfran leaves Atletico Madrid ‘as an Indian’

Veteran full-back Juanfran confirmed his Atletico Madrid departure in an emotional speech where he claimed to have arrived as a "Viking" and will leave "like an Indian".

“We have already seen what Zizou did with a really good squad. It is always easier in that case than if you have average players.”

The Albania manager agreed with Solari’s declaration that the Real players must show “balls” after their 3-0 loss at Eibar.

“I am in total agreement. When you lose against Eibar you are the one who has to react,” he added.

“This is the easiest game for a coach. You are coming off a defeat, so it is easy, with the pride that Madrid and Roma have.

“The coach does not have to say anything until the game, just pick his team and that’s it.

“He does not need to say anything else to the players.”

Real will face AS Roma in a Group G Champions League match tonight with kick-off set for 21:00 (CET).
