Thomas Partey’s father insists the midfielder will quit Atletico Madrid only after his buyout clause is met while hinting that many clubs are interested.
A strong presence at the heart of the Atletico Madrid midfield, Thomas Partey’s impressive displays this season has prompted interest from some of Europe’s biggest names.
Arsenal are reportedly in the front of the queue to secure his signature. Lack of defensive cover in the middle of the park is a cause of concern for Mikel Arteta and he identifies Partey, who excels in this department, as his top priority target for this summer.
However, the Gunners can face stiff competition from Liverpool and the Manchester clubs who are also supposedly trailing him.
Amid the rumors, his father recently confirmed that the only way to sign the 26-year old, who is contracted to Atletico until 2023, is to match his €50 million release clause.
Jacob Partey told SilverFM: “My son’s current club Atletico Madrid has a release clause in Partey’s deal. This means that any club which shows interest in signing him must meet those demands.
“So any team which meets Atletico’s demand will be able to sign my son, and not specifically Arsenal.
“I always call my son and he is of age to decide on a move. I am ready to support his decision.”
