Mario Pasalic scored the opening goal for Atalanta and insists his side did their very best until the final whistle against PSG.
Mario Pasalic’s stunning strike in the first half looked to have been enough for Atalanta to hold on to at the Estadio da Luz.
A couple of misses from Neymar also ensured that Atalanta remained in the game and with a chance to qualify as shock semi-finalists.
Just when it looked like the Serie A side could mount one of the biggest results in their history, they were punished in the space of few minutes.
Goals from Marquinhos and Eric Choupo-Moting proved to be the difference as PSG made a stunning comeback to secure the victory.
Atalanta were only few minutes away from victory and Pasalic says they did all they could but eventually fell to PSG’s quality.
“It’s a pity, we were so close, but that’s the Champions League, teams with quality upfront can score two goals in two minutes,” Pasalic told Sky Sport Italia.
“The disappointment is there, so are regrets, but we want to look forward and be more prepared for the Champions League next season.”
“We did all we possibly could, there’s no doubt about that, but these teams have so much individual quality that they can hurt you at any moment.”
“I think we proved that we can fight it out with the strongest opponents and I hope we can do the same in the Champions League next season.”
