Patrick Kluivert insists son Justin was right to join Roma over Man Utd

during the serie A match between Torino FC and AS Roma at Stadio Olimpico di Torino on August 19, 2018 in Turin, Italy.

Patrick Kluivert insisted that his son Justin has made the right call in joining AS Roma instead of Manchester United

The highly-rated teenage winger had been heavily linked with a move to United this summer due to Jose Mourinho’s friendship with his father from their days together back at Barcelona.

But Justin instead sealed a €18.75m from Ajax to AS Roma this summer.

And Patrick has backed his son’s decision by insisting that he is better suited to playing in Serie A, where there is less pressure than in the Premier League.

“I’m very satisfied with what he is doing,” Patrick told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He doesn’t speak much, but he is someone who knows how to listen and is motivated, I would have liked to stay in Ajax for another year, but he chose for himself. I think Roma is a good solution.

“A jump to the Premier League would have been difficult. I think United would have been too big a jump. Roma is an important club, but the pressures are lower.

“Roma must not win by force and it is a club that is used to good football. It is the ideal place for Justin right now. Then, who doesn’t dream of Barcelona? But Italian football is catching up and Justin can take advantage of it.”

Justin Kluivert managed 13 goals and 10 assists in 56 senior games for Ajax.

The 19-year-old came off the bench for the final 20 minutes in Roma’s opening day 1-0 win at Torino on Sunday.
