The legendary England international is finding it hard to believe that Tottenham have agreed to sell Trippier to Atletico Madrid.
While Atletico Madrid have snapped Tripper from Tottenham, Paul Gascoigne hasn’t been impressed with the decision.
The England international played 38 games for Spurs last season and also started the Champions League final loss at the hands of Liverpool. However, Mauricio Pochettino never saw him as an influential member of the squad.
So when an offer came from Atletico Madrid, Trippier was sold. Following the defeat to Liverpool, Trippier had said that he wasn’t sure about his future at the club.
Paul Gascoigne though, is surprised that Spurs have agreed to sell the full-back for such a small amount.
Speaking to talkSPORT host Jim White on Wednesday, Gazza said: “He’s a good player and it’s a good move for him, a big move.
“But I just can’t believe he’s going for £21million [sic]!
“Some of the players are going for so much nowadays, it’s ridiculous.
“Some of them can’t even trap a bag of cement, honestly!
“But it’s another good player having the chance to play abroad. I did it, but whether he’ll do as good as me, who knows?!”
Indeed it is surprising to know how little Diego Simeone’s side had to pay in order to sign a player who is a full England international. While his form wasn’t that commendable last season, with bags of talent and a lot of experience, Trippier should have commanded a bigger transfer fee.
Regardless, the fact that Tottenham and Daniel Levy did not force the issue with their Spanish partners clearly means that they wanted the player off their books. Pochettino is already looking to the future and is going to rely on a younger option down the right flank.
For Tripper though, it is the start of a new chapter at a club that is going to be very competitive next season.
