Let’s discuss the major changes that Paul Pogba has made to his new role at Manchester United under Ole Gunner Solskjaer, the post-Mourinho era.

As Manchester United keep working hard for that Top Four spot this season, a major contributor of this new form in all competitions is French midfielder Paul Pogba.

The young midfielder wasn’t living up to the expectations around him after coming from Juventus for a record €110 million at the time, a lot more than what he offered was expected from him after he arrived and his time under Jose Mourinho’s tutelage started to get everybody nervous at Manchester United’s board of directors.

His very first season for the club was actually quite successful, the player did win the Europa League under the Portuguese manager and he was actually one of the best players of the competition.

The Red Devils also went on to win the FA Cup during that same season and things started to look pretty good for the squad, but Paul Pogba never really felt like he was the same type of player who left Juventus.

The French midfielder always seemed like he wasn’t feeling comfortable on the position that Jose Mourinho wanted him to perform, he is a midfielder with extraordinary defensive capabilities but his creativity surpasses any of his other talents by a longshot.

When he played for the Vecchia Signora, Pogba did start playing a more defensive role during his first couple of seasons but his managers quickly realized that they were wasting a player who could potentially become one of the best in the world.

People thought that natural playmakers like Juan Roman Riquelme or Ronaldinho were an endangered species, but Paul Pogba started to prove at Juventus that this conception was a myth.

The Frenchman got the club’s number ’10’ jersey as soon as Carlos Tevez left the club, this gave him an even greater range and freedom to create football for the strikers in front of him.

Pogba also developed a great relationship inside the pitch with Paulo Dybala, who is considered a playmaker as well but can perform even further up front so Pogba could have the space to play behind the strikers.

This position is the reason Manchester United signed him in the first place, but Jose Mourinho had other ideas for the player and he blocked the already advanced evolution that he was going through at Juventus.

Van Persie urges Man United to give Solskjaer time

Robin van Persie believes it's essential Manchester United give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a fair crack at overturning their decline in form.

Fortunately for Paul, he could always go back to the French National Team and express himself freely with no restrictions under manager Didier Deschamps, someone who really understood him.

Now that Jose is gone and Paul Pogba has been given a second chance to shine, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been smart enough to take him back to that progression that was helping him become one of the best players in the world and we can finally say that things are working perfectly for him so far.

It’s really unfortunate that Paul will miss the return leg at Parc des Princes in the Champions League against PSG, he was one of the biggest hopes for a comeback that Manchester United had for the return leg.

However, not everything is lost for Paul Pogba in regards to titles because the Red Devils are still very much alive in the FA Cup and they will most likely shoot for that competition in order to get some silverware by the end of the season.

Pogba must be right in the middle of that attempt, he is the key player in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s master plan and we can now rest easy because we know that he will always deliver great performances when he plays in this new playmaker position.

It’s a shame that pundits in England have only recently discovered Pogba’s true potential, they should go back to his Juventus days and play some Youtube videos in order to realize what they were missing.

Why do you think it has taken so long for English pundits to realize that Paul Pogba is really a playmaker rather than a defensive midfielder? Please share your opinion in the comment section down below.
