Barcelona midfielder Paulinho claimed he wants Philippe Coutinho to join the Catalan side, as the Brazilian has been linked with a move to Barca from Liverpool
The Brazilian midfielder would be delighted to have the opportunity to play alongside his compatriot at club level amid renewed speculation of a move, GOAL understands. And he might have the chance, despite the Reds refusing Barcelona’s offer for the midfielder during the summer.
Coutinho handed in a transfer request during that period, which got rejected by the Reds, but he has since returned to the fold at Anfield and continues to impress in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI, and of course Barca’s interest in him has got even bigger.
“I’ve already talked a few times about the Coutinho question. Everyone expects the great players to come to Barcelona, we have a very strong group of great players, without Coutinho people are doing a great job,” Paulinho told Mundo Deportivo, when asked about a potential Coutinho transfer.
“On Coutinho it is not necessary to say much, he is a great player who has been making a difference in his team, in the Brazilian team. He is young but with experience in Europe,” he added.
“I want him to come, I think it would be a great contract for Barca. It would be a great happiness for me, because we would have another great player and another Brazilian.”
And it wasn’t only Paulinho, who praised the Liverpool midfielder. Luis Suarez has also had some nice words about Coutinho, and about Antoine Griezmann as well, as the Frenchman has been linked with Barcelona too.
“Both Griezmann and Coutinho are elite players that are playing at the top level. They are where they are for a reason. They’re both young and have long careers ahead of them. And Barca always want the best players,” Suarez told RAC105.
