The new AS Roma manager has demanded his players to show courage and commitment in order to turn a new page next season.
With Paulo Foseca in charge, AS Roma should look forward to a period of success and better football.
Fonseca was never the first option for the capital club. The likes of Antonio Conte and Gian Piero Gasperini were contacted but both men refused to take the job. AS Roma is a club that is always mired in one thing or the other. Perhaps this is why the club has failed to show any sort of consistency in recent times.
But for Fonseca, this was an opportunity of a lifetime. The Portuguese tactician says that it was a no-brainer for him to come to Rome.
“I didn’t think twice about saying yes to Roma,” Fonseca says according to La Gazzetta della Sport.
Now that he’s in charge, Fonseca wants AS Roma to play good football and show the sort of courage that’s the hallmark of all great teams.
“I think we can all do great things together. When Roma called me, I was very happy. Coaching here is an extraordinary thing. I didn’t think twice about it. Being the coach of a team like Roma is one of the goals of most coaches in Europe. I want to build something special and different here with my ideas.”
“The most important thing is to build a courageous team, this is the main objective. I believe that with these players, who have a lot of quality, it will be possible to build a courageous team that has no problems dealing with the strongest and smallest teams. I want my players to show courage and also quality in the game.”
Indeed, Fonseca wants AS Roma to play the sort of football that is befitting of this historic club.
