Arsenal legend Robert Pires believes that both Dimitri Payet and Antoine Griezmann could make the difference for their respective sides in tonight’s Europa League final
The French duo have both had impressive seasons and are being widely tipped to star at Lyon’s Groupama Stadium with Payet’s seven assists having played a key role for Marseille on route to their first European final since 2004.
While Griezmann scored a critical away goal for Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their 2-1 aggregate win against Arsenal in the semi-final stage and, after a difficult start to the season, he has continued to impress and has bagged 27 goals in 47 appearances this term.
Pires, who himself produced many magical moments in his own playing career, is looking forward to seeing how the duo fare against each other.
“This is a good battle between them,” he told BT Sport.
“They have a lot of quality and impact, one for Atletico and one for Marseille. They both play for France, so they play at a very high level.
“That’s why they can make all the difference in the game.
“Atletico against Marseille, Payet against Griezmann, Rudi Garcia against Diego Simeone, and the fans…it should be a great final.”
