Dimitri Payet is excited about the future of Olympique Marseilles after manager Andre Villas-Boas appears set to stay at the club.
Former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas led Marseille to a second-place finish in Ligue 1 this season and therefore a place in next seasons Champions League.
This has not stopped speculation surrounding the future of the Portuguese tactician. With instability at the boardroom level within the club leading to talk of him walking away from the French side.
However, the club released a statement confirming that they had offered their current boss a substantial contract extension.
The statement read:
“The President of Olympique de Marseille Jacques-Henri Eyraud spoke with André Villas-Boas about his desire to offer him a contract extension.”
“The club sent André Villas-Boas a proposal to extend the contract by 2 years ( for the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons) + 1 optional year (2023/24).”
This prompted French star Dimitri Payet to speak up in support of the announcement.
Talking to Journal de l’ile de La Reunion he expressed his joy at the extension and the support the team has for their boss.
“Villas-Boas had all the support from the locker room.”
“A year ago, few of us would have seen us in second place in the standings with such a small squad. He did whatever it took to be rewarded for achieving this goal.”
“The recent management of the coach shows OM has grown in crisis management.”
“Despite all that has been reported in recent days, he is still with us. He wants to continue the adventure.”
“This is what counts today.”
“When we say that OM is a family, it’s not just words.”
