Pele puts Messi over Ronaldo, but he’s always on top

During a fresh interview for a Youtube channel, Pele changed his mind in the age-old debate while choosing between Messi and Ronaldo.

Edson Arantes do Nascimento ‘Pele’ has always been compared to both Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. This is a player who was ahead of his time and reached heights that still nobody reaches until the new era. The two legendary players who lived through the biggest rivalry in sports history can see themselves on the same level as Pele.

However, the Brazilian legend is having none of that. Despite changing his mind every year about who is better between the two stars, he is certain about one thing. In his eyes, there is no better player in football history than himself. The numbers to back him, the titles as well.

No other player won three FIFA World Cup trophies and probably no player will. Stats-wise, Pele is also the greatest scorer in history but Cristiano should surpass him this season without a problem. This is the reason Pele finally accepted who is better between CR7 and Leo.

There’s a catch in Pele’s assessment.

While talking on Youtube channel Pilhado, Pele said: “Today, Cristiano is the best player in the world but we can’t forget about Messi. However, Cristiano is more consistent and Messi isn’t a goal-scorer like he is.

“I don’t know if Messi and Ronaldo are the best-ever. That’s a tough question to answer. You can’t forget Zico, Ronaldinho or Ronaldo Nazario. In Europe you have Beckenbauer and Cruyff.

“It’s not my fault but, I think Pele was better than all of them because everybody compares them with me. My mother and father broke the mold. My dad was a player, he scored five headers in a single match once. That’s the only record I didn’t break.

“There will only be one Pele. Maybe it’s because God loves me. There was a king and there will be some princes. But I did win three World Cups though.”
