Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has slammed the state of Burton Albion’s pitch following their Carabao cup second leg fixture.

City won the fixture 1-0 thanks to a goal from Sergio Aguero, to secure a 10-0 aggregate victory over the League One club.

The pitch looked difficult when the blankets covering it were taken off after a day when temperatures reduced to freezing point.

But there was no talk of a pitch inspection, and Guardiola may have regretted selecting Kevin De Bruyne and Aguero.

The former Barcelona manager was not directly asked about the condition of the pitch but mentioned it on a couple of different occasions, and finished his press conference by saying: “The pitch was dangerous, it was slippery and not stable that’s why we finished good.”

Guardiola was also full of praise for Albion, saying, according to Manchester Evening News: “They had two or three great chances – Aro (Muric) was great.”

“I was curious to see how they would react when they started at 9-0. They have to be so proud.”
