Goalkeeper Joel Pereira is determined to prove that Jose Mourinho is right to trust in the potential that he can reach at Manchester United
Just last summer Mourinho praised Pereira and announced his belief that he can become “the best Portuguese keeper of the next generation.”
But, despite those comments, Pereira has found himself overlooked at Old Trafford with the number one goalkeeper spot taken by the highly-rated David de Gea. The Portuguese has been restricted to just the one appearance in the Carabao Cup against Burton Albion, but he believes that he has benefited from working alongside De Gea and Sergio Romero.
“I’m very happy,” the 21 year-old told ManUtd.com.
“As the number three, I have two top goalkeepers in front of me, and they help me a lot too.
“They have lots of experience and they can help me with that. Obviously, I have a manager who has helped me so much and has always been by my side. I’m learning a lot so I am happy where I am.
“Obviously it’s very nice to hear good stuff coming from the manager. Now is my time to show people that he’s right about me and everything he says is actually the truth.
“I’m just learning and getting some experience. We’ll see what happens next.”
After joining United back in 2012, Pereira enjoyed a successful loan spell with Belenenses last season in Portugal.
