For the first time in history, the Croatian national team made it to the FIFA World Cup Final, and even if they didn’t win it, they were welcomed back as heroes
Croatia and France played in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Final in Russia this summer.
And even after the Croatians lost the final, they were still welcomed back as heros in their country.
“We were told that so many people were waiting for us, but the way they welcomed us was unimaginable, more than 500 thousand people were in the streets,” Ivan Perisic was quoted by Calcio Mercato.
“The songs echoed everywhere, there were Croatian flags, it was really like a dream, only when you see the happiness of these people, from the youngest to the oldest, you realize what you have achieved not only for yourself but for the whole nation.”
“I think it’s the most important aspect of the story: we arrived late for several hours at the official ceremony because the uncovered bus could not make its way through that people,” he explained.
“When we got on the stage it was like an earthquake, we could hear the floor.”
“Playing for the National team makes me very proud, being able to obtain these successes is something incredible,” he concluded.
