Milan legend Demetrio Albertini insists the club were right to extend the deal for Stefano Pioli. The Italian has shown he is deserving of the job.
After Milan’s victory against Sassuolo on Tuesday, the club announced some big news regarding head coach Stefano Pioli.
It was initially expected that Ralf Rangnick would take over as Rossoneri boss come the end of the season.
But an upturn in the club’s form and fortunes saw them retain their faith in Pioli for another two years at least.
It’s easy to see why the club’s hierarchy would want Pioli to remain at the club. An initial few months of inconsistency has been replaced with excellent results over recent time.
23 points out of a possible 27 since the restart means no Serie A side (bar Atalanta) has shown better form than Milan of late.
Many have questioned whether the club was right to make that decision. Milan legend Demetrio Albertini weighs in on the matter claiming the 54-year-old is well-deserving of his extension.
“He has shown that he deserves the Milan job,” Albertini said in an interview quoted by Football-Italia. “Pioli’s main merit is having regrouped the team in their most delicate moment.
“When the confidence wanes in the current season, it’s easy for the dressing room to fall apart in a heartbeat. The risks were high for Pioli.”
“The lockdown could have ruined everything, but instead he has brought out the best. Well done”
“But the players have shown maturity too.”
With three games remaining, Pioli and company would be aiming for a top-five finish come the end of the campaign. Only two points behind fifth-placed Napoli, that is a realistic aim for the Rossoneri.
