Gerard Pique insists even after recent complaints that his outside interests are interfering with his work in Barcelona his main focus is still football.
Pique was at the Catalan Football Federation’s awards gala, picking up a gong for his performance’s over the last 12 months.
Ironically enough Pique was late for the gala and almost missed it.
He had been in London for a tennis-related event.
Pique is heavily involved in the Spanish tennis scene, and an avid promoter for a newly established tennis world cup.
He arrived dressed in jeans, a t-shirt and leather jacket in what is billed as a black-tie affair.
According to Sport English, he was rather apologetic for his arrival and appearance but was adamant he is focused on matters of a footballing nature.
“I didn’t think I could make it, I thought I wouldn’t arrive, so sorry for how I’m dressed.”
“I’m proud of getting the award and I thank the team-mates, the club, without them I would not be what I am and I hope that it’s a successful year.”
“My priority is football, football, football.”
Pique parted with a dig at those who claim he is distracted.
“If we win lots of titles, I’m sure that those who write will stop saying we’re distracted.”
