The Barcelona defender has weighed in on the never-ending GOAT debate between the two superstars.
Gerard Pique has offered a diplomatic take on who is the better player between his former teammates Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The 34-year-old insists the duo stand above everyone else as the best players in football history and both have âvery differentâ skill sets.
He feels Messi has âtalent that no one hasâ that makes him âinhumanâ, while Ronaldo is âthe best of the humansâ and âcan do anythingâ with a ball.
Pique’s verdict on the GOAT debate
âI think that they are both amazing,â Pique told BT Sport.
âWe are talking about two of the best players, not just in the world but the history of this sport.
âI always said that Messi has some talent that no one has. I mean, he has the ball and his speed controlling the ball. The ball doesnât go two metres far from his foot, itâs always there. Itâs impossible to catch him, this talent I didnât see from anyone.
âCristiano Ronaldo is such a different player, they are very different. He is tall, strong, heâs really complete. He can do anything. He can do goals with the head, free-kicks, penalties, take one on one.
âBut for me, itâs like Messi is not human but Cristiano is the best of the humans.â
Pique partnered Messi at Barcelona for 13 years from 2008 right until the Argentineâs departure for Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
He also shared a dressing room with Ronaldo at Manchester United from 2004 to 2008.
Ronaldo, meanwhile, is set to return to action for the Red Devils on Monday evening away to Newcastle. For match details, visit the link here.
