Barcelona defender Gerard Pique says that Lionel Messi’s consistency makes him a better player than Diego Maradona.

Gerard Pique has had his say on the Messi-Maradona debate claiming who he would pick and why.

The two footballing greats have often been compared to one another, having both played for Barcelona and Argentina.

Ahead of Barca’s tie against Napoli, there have been reasons to bring up that debate yet again.

Pique has high praise for Maradona’s achievement but believes Messi’s longevity at the top makes him the better option between the two.

“Maradona was a unique player in the history of football, he went through Barca and Napoli, he will be remembered forever,” Pique said in a press conference via Goal.

“But if you ask me to choose between Leo or Diego, I would say Messi because of his consistency and the magic he produces on a daily basis.”

Pique also mentioned that the Barcelona players already have one eye on the El Clasico and the result against Napoli could influence the game.

Meaning a win against Napoli would be a much needed boost ahead of the clash with fierce rivals Rival Madrid
